A roll-over crash on McKnight Boulevard has killed one person and sent two others to hospital.

It happened just before 5:00 p.m. at McKnight Boulevard between 52 Street and 68 Street N.E.

Police say three people were travelling in the vehicle at the time. A teenaged girl died at the scene, and man in his 50s and a second teenaged girl were taken to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.

The vehicle hit the centre median and rolled multiple times. A nurse and a firefighter were in a passing car and stopped to help.

“I sat with the one girl, my husband was sitting with the man, she was having a difficult time breathing, I did a jaw thrust on her to try and help do that and we looked for ID so we would have some names to go with them so we could talk to them,” said Jan Ginther. “I just held her and told her that she was loved and somebody would be here soon.”

Police are investigating what may have caused the crash.

“It is believed that speed could be a factor in this collision, unsure if alcohol is a factor at this time,” said A/Sgt. David Dentandt, Calgary Police Traffic Section.

Traffic was blocked in both directions for hours on McKnight Boulevard for the investigation.
