A Saturday afternoon avalanche near the Lake Louise ski resort illustrates the hazardous conditions in the backcountry in the area.

Following the avalanche, Search and Rescue members trekked into the West Bowl after noticing a set of ski tracks entering the region. Rescue crews located tracks leaving the bowl and determined the skier was able to exit on their own accord.

According to Dan Markham, a spokesperson for Lake Louise, the current snow pack in the backcountry is very unstable and dangerous.
