The owner of a pit bull has been charged after the dog bit a young girl’s face over the weekend in southwest Calgary.

An eight-year-old girl was sledding on a hill Bridlewood around 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The dog was apparently towing a sled up the hill when it may have been spooked and bit the girl.

The dog was quickly contained after the incident.

Officials say the girl was an innocent bystander and was not connected to the dog in any way.

The owner has been charged with a dig bite resulting in serious injury and the dog being in a prohibited area.

If found guilty, the owner could be fined up to $10,000.
