The owner of a Staffordshire bull terrier which killed a poodle last Friday in northeast Calgary has been charged and his dog will be put down.  

The poodle’s owner, Amber Lessard, says she was walking her poodle on Templehill Drive N.E. when she stopped to let her dog mingle with two other larger dogs.         

One of the larger dogs lunged at the poodle, grabbed it by the neck, and shook it violently.  The poodle was rushed to a veterinarian clinic, but it died from its injuries.                                                                                                                                               

The owner of the bull terrier has been charged with two counts of Having Unlicensed dogs and one charge of a Dog Causing Death to Another animal.

The Staffordshire bull terrier has been turned over to Animal Bylaw Services and it will be euthanized on Friday.
