An online petition has been launched, calling on the Redford government to arm peace officers with guns and Tasers.
The petition comes after Peace Officer Rod Lazenby was killed during a call last week.
It states that Lazenby didn’t possess weapons to adequately defend himself when he was “attacked and fatally wounded”.
The petition urges Alberta Justice Minister Jonathan Denis to allow qualified and properly trained peace officers to carry firearms and Tasers during the performance of their duties.
Trevor Kloschinsky, 46, is charged with the first degree murder of Lazenby.
Kloschinsky is currently in custody and is expected back in court on Monday.
