  • assault causing bodily harm
  • kidnapping
  • uttering threats

Those who live in the area say they can't believe something like this could happen in their community.

"I thought this neighbourhood was supposed to be good, as a newer neighbourhood and I don't know it's just kind of sad to hear about that," said Brad Baily.

"Makes me feel horrible because that could have been my sister," said Colton Berndt.

"That's scary cause like, I'm always out here til twelve at night sometimes, coming from school and knowing that this kind of stuff happens here is actually kind of scary," said Sabeena Chahal.

Karine Ruiz is a board member on the Taradale Community Association and says she is shocked by the news.

“Horrified really. I have a 14-year-old daughter and a 17-year-old niece and an 18-year-old niece so this hits home even more so cause they are always on transit and walking out here with their friends so it’s really scary. ”This is not going to go over well with any of the residents here, we will not allow things like this to happen and we’re definitely going to do something to make sure everybody is aware of this and can do things to prevent it.”

Ruiz says the community will be working to see how they can get information out to residents and to find ways to support the family of the victim.

The brothers appeared in court on Monday and will remain in custody until their next court date..
