Calgary Police have called the homicide unit to investigate the scene where a man’s body was found on the banks of the Elbow River.

The man’s body was discovered in the 2200 block of 2 St. S.W., near the Holy Cross Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

A passerby called police at 5:30 p.m. after spotting the body.

They say the call for the homicide unit is standard procedure and they do not have any details on how the man died.

The body is an adult male, but there is no information on age, his identity, or how long the body has been there.

An autopsy is scheduled later this week.

Police do say that the body is not that of Ralph Simington, an elderly Calgary man missing since June.
