Calgary police are investigating the city's second shooting death of 2015.

At about 3:00 a.m., police were called to the area of 14 Avenue and 8 Street N.W., in the community of Rosedale, for reports of a gunshot.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man's body in an alleyway just off of 8 Street,

Police cordoned off the alley and the CPS Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.

The Medical Examiner has attended the scene and removed the body of a black man in his twenties. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, January 5. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Geoffrey Melvill-Jones, who lives nearby where the shooting occurred says he heard as many as six gunshots. "That was it, then complete silence. I knew they were gunshots because I was in the military in the 1950s."

Police do not believe the targeted attack was related to the New Year's Day Killarney house party shooting.

Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
