Two men are dead after the vehicle they were in was involved in a crash on a highway northeast of Calgary on Tuesday morning.
One of the victims is 33 year old Jonathan Sobul.
His sister says he was the head chef at Starbelly Restaurant in Southeast Calgary and she believes his was on his way to a farm at the time of the collision.
Emergency crews were called to a multi-vehicle collision at Highway 9 and Township Road 270 at about 9:30 a.m.
Officials say the collision involved a sedan, semi-tractor-trailer unit and a cube van.
“What we do know is there was two vehicles travelling northbound on Highway 9 and another vehicle that was travelling southbound on Highway 9 and two of those vehicles collided and as a result of that collision, a third vehicle was involved as well,” said RCMP Sergeant Glen Demmon.
Two men in their 30s, who were in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with minor injuries and a passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash and was assessed at the scene.
Police have closed Highway 9 in both directions to investigate.
