Calgary police are investigating Wednesday night's shooting in the northeast community of Marlborough Park that sent one man to hospital.

At around 9:00 p.m., police were called to the area of Madeira Road N.E. following reports of gunshots and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The shooting victim was transported to hospital in non-life-threatening condition with minor injuries. According to police, the victim is not cooperating with the investigation.

"Investigators believe the victim was sitting in a vehicle parked on a driveway when another vehicle approached," said CPS Staff Sergeant Quinn Jacques. "A man got out of the approaching vehicle and  fired numerous shots at the victim before fleeing the scene."

"This is believed to be a targeted attack as the result of a dispute between individuals over drugs."

Police describe the suspect vehicle is a blue or dark coloured BMW X5.

At least two parked vehicles were struck by bullets and police are asking homeowners in the neighbourhood to check their property for damage.

Calgary has been overshadowed by gun violence in 2015. According to police statistics, there have already been at least 80 shootings involving injuries. In 2013, there were 69 injuries from shootings.

Staff Sgt. Quinn Jacques says escalating gun violence in Calgary is the result of disputes involving groups with ties to drug trafficking.

"It's based on drugs but there's territorial issues," explains Jacques. "There's issues of disrespect that lead to these incidents where firearms are discharged."

"It's just a matter of time before some innocent person is hit."

Anyone with information about the Marlborough Park shooting is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
