Police are still trying to figure out what happened in the northeast Calgary community of Falconridge after several residents called 911 saying they heard an explosion.

They were called to the area of Falwood Way N.E. at about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday after residents said they heard gunshots and an explosion.

Police and fire crews at the scene found a truck that had sustained some damage, possibly from a pipebomb, however police won't confirm what type of explosive went off until the investigation is complete.

Duty Inspector Michael Watterson said "we certainly don't take any chances, we did have to evacuate several homes in the area as a precaution".

There were no injuries and only minimal damage to the pick-up truck.
