Calgary police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman at a home in the southeast community of Cranston.

Officers were called to the home on Cranarch Circle S.E. at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday where they found a woman's body.

“We’ haven’t determined that a crime has taken place. Again the autopsy hasn’t been completed so we’re trying to get information, we’re working very hard with the Medical  Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and the manner of death,” said CPS Duty Inspector Kelly Campbell.

Police say they believe the incident is isolated to the residence and that they were called in as a check on welfare.

Another woman was taken to hospital but so far there is no word on her injuries or condition.

CTV News has learned, through property records, that the owners of the home are Len and Christine Hagan and neighbours say Christine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this past April.

The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Jessica Hagan.

Daniel Hagan, Jessica's brother, issued the following statement:

"Jessica was the most purely loving person I’ve ever known. You can’t truly understand her absolute love for the people in her life without meeting her. This is a devastating loss for myself and my family."

Neighbours say the couple moved in a couple of years ago with their daughter.

"They moved into the area a couple of years ago, very nice and helpful people," said Raj Ghosh.

Ghosh says he didn't see much in the area when police were there on Tuesday night. "Last night, I got back at around 10 o'clock in the evening and I say quite a few police cars. No lights flashing or anything, mostly just people standing in front of that house with the police out there."

Ellen Bascon lives nearby and says the news is a bit hard to take. "It's very sad. She was a very nice lady."

The Homicide Unit has been called in to investigate and an autopsy is expected to be conducted on Wednesday.
