Calgary police are at the scene of a suspicious death in the northeast community of Pineridge, where a body was found inside a home.

They say they were called to a home in the 400 block of Pinehill Road N.E. at about 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, where they found a body.

Police say the victim is female and they have arrested a man in connection with the death.

The CPS Major Crimes Unit has been at the scene all night, and the scene is still being held.

The Homicide Unit is expected to continue the investigation and an autopsy is expected to be conducted later on Wednesday.

Residents in the area tell CTV that they've seen police attend the home on previous occasions, but they aren't sure why they were there.

One young man who just moved into the area with his family at the beginning of August said they were just sitting down watching TV when they noticed police everywhere in the area.

"My stepdad had just stepped out for a smoke when he came back in and said 'there's cops everywhere, come check it out'. We had no idea what was going on, so we just opened our curtains and kept an eye on it," Christian Kyrytow said.

He tells CTV that they didn't hear anything before police arrived and he was surprised by the incident because he initially thought this was a quiet area.

A woman who lives with her daughter met the residents of the home at the center of the incident, but says she didn't have much contact with them. "We just said 'hi' to them. We saw in the past a lot of police there."
