Members of Calgary Police Service have located and charged a 23-year-old man in connection to an armed kidnapping in Springbank Hill but continue to search for a second suspect.

On August 6, 2014, officers responded to a home in the southwest community following reports a family member had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom.

The kidnapping victim was returned to the residence prior to the arrival of CPS members and officers successfully located and apprehended one of three alleged suspects.

It’s believed the victim knew the suspects.

Officers identified the two remaining suspects as 23-year-old Mohamed Abdi Yusuf and 30-year-old Tusif Ur Rehman Chhina, Canada-wide warrants were issued for the two men.

On October 11, Yusuf was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats
  • Extortion
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Driving an uninsured motor vehicle

Yusuf is scheduled to appear in court on October 21, 2014.

Tusif Ur Rehman Chhina remains at large. Police describe the suspect as:

  • Approximately 175 cm (5’9”) tall
  • Weighing 59 kg (130 lbs)
  • Having a medium build
  • Balding black hair
  • With a scar on his forehead
