Calgary police have located a pouch holding the ashes of a young Medicine Hat boy that was stolen along with a purse from a northeast area pub on Saturday.

The Hudson family came to Calgary to take part in a bereavement ceremony at the Alberta Children’s Hospital on the weekend.

Hunter Hudson was almost a year old when he drowned earlier this year and his mother, Laura, carries his ashes with her whenever she leaves home.

Laura and her husband, Nathan, went to a pub near their hotel for a few hours and were playing the VLTs when someone picked up Laura’s purse from their table.

The couple called Calgary police and an investigation was launched to find the purse and the little, velvet bag of ashes.

Surveillance footage from the pub shows two women near the table just before the purse disappeared and police later learned that credit cards from the purse were used at a 7-Eleven on Ogden Road.

On Wednesday, police recovered both the purse and the ashes and they are in the process of returning them to the Hudsons.

No charges have been laid but police say they will continue to investigate.
