Calgary police have charged a 34-year-old man in connection to the death of another man in a southeast parking lot on Saturday night.

Police were called to the 3900 block of 17 Avenue S.E. at about 10:25 p.m. for reports of an injured man.

The man appeared to have stab wounds to his upper chest and was taken to hospital. He died from his injuries the next day.

On Tuesday, police charged Judah Diew Long with one count of manslaughter in connection to the death.

Police were able to make a quick arrest thanks to a quick response and a number of witnesses in the area.

"Everyone related to it lives within a very close proximity of where this incident took place so that has aided us as we've had a large presence in that area since it happened and were able to speak with people with information, witnesses, and ultimately that's how we found the accused in this situation," said CPS S/Sgt. Grant Miller.

Miller says that they believe the incident happened about a block away from where the victim was found.

"We had a difficult time trying to determine exactly where this event took place but we do believe it took place in the alley, the next block up from the Tim Hortons," said Miller.

Police believe the victim and accused were known to each other and that the incident may be drug related.

The accused was arrested in a business near the scene and taken into custody.

Police say there is the potential for the charges to be upgraded at a later date once they have examined all of the evidence.

An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for Tuesday and it is expected officials will release the official cause of death and the man’s identity at that time.
