Calgary police are looking for a male suspect in an attempted child abduction that happened at a northwest convenience store on Tuesday afternoon.

A child was approached by a man while inside a store at 2615 Valiant Drive N.W at about 12:30 p.m. and police say the 12-year-old was verbally threatened by the suspect.

The child managed to flee to a nearby school and the incident was reported to police.

The suspect is described as:

  • White male
  • In his 40s
  • Between 173 and 180 cm or 5’8” and 5’11” tall
  • Described as having a round face with a moustache or goatee
  • Short and balding grey hair
  • Brown eyes
  • Wearing a brown jacket and dark pants
  • May have smelled of campfire and alcohol

Police say the suspect may have been driving an older model 90s, two-door, grey sedan with no licence plate.
