Calgary Police are investigating a home invasion in the city's northeast and are on the lookout for five suspects.

Police were called to a home in the 0-100 block of Coral Springs Blvd. N.E. at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday for reports of a home invasion.

Five men with weapons are alleged to have forced their way into the home and once inside, ransacked the interior.

Police say they stole property from the homeowner, who suffered injuries to his head and foot. He is now recovering in hospital.

"One of the indications was a firearm was used and maybe an edged weapon. Of course, that's still yet to be proved at this point," said CPS Sgt. John McCarthy.

The suspects are described as:

  • Black male, stocky build, wearing a black scarf and hooded jacket
  • Black male, medium build, short black hair, glasses, wearing a blue tracksuit
  • Black male, medium build, wearing a scarf
  • Black male, slim build, wearing a grey hoodie
  • Hispanic male, medium build, wearing a dark scarf and hoodie

Police say the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle and believe that the home was targeted.
