A man in his 50s is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed while standing on a downtown LRT platform early Tuesday morning and police have released an image of a person of interest.

Police say a man was waiting on the eastbound platform at about 4:40 a.m. when he was approached by another man.

An altercation ensued and the man was stabbed. He was taken to hospital and remains in serious but stable condition.

The assailant fled eastbound towards 7 Avenue and 3 Street S.E.

Police say the two men were not known to each other and investigators are trying to determine a motive for the attack.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • In his 40s
  • About 170 cm or 5’7” tall
  • 91 Kg or 200 lbs.
  • Clean shaven
  • Was wearing a dark-coloured toque, green jacket, blue jeans and beige work boots
  • Carrying a black backpack
