Calgary Police are now testing a new piece of technology designed to enhance their policing.
Starting this week, 50 cameras which are designed to be mounted on the clothing of police officers will be deployed all across the force.
The pilot program is specifically designed to test the compatibility with the in-car digital video program already in use.
One of the advantages of the body-worn cameras is that they allow officers to capture evidence, enhance safety, and provide transparency.
The pilot project is expected to run until spring 2013 during which time the police will determine the pros and cons of the technology.
The cameras are about $1,200 each, so the project cost is estimated at $60,000.
