The victim of Monday afternoon’s collision on the Banff Avenue run at Sunshine Village has been identified as a resident of Banff with extensive snowboarding experience.
Members of the Banff RCMP detachment confirm the deceased is 32-year-old Martin Desrosiers.
On Monday, near the end of the resort’s operating hours, ski patrollers located Desrosiers on the beginner run at a spot near the Wolverine chairlift. Desrosiers had collided with a tree.
The 32-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of the crash, Desrosiers was not wearing a helmet.
Desrosiers was a manager at Skoki's Waffle and Frozen Yogurt, a dessert store on Banff Avenue in the Banff townsite. According to the shop's staff, Desrosiers was well liked and will be missed.
