Cochrane RCMP is looking for help in connection with a break and enter incident at a rural property where approximately $1M worth of jewelry was stolen.

Authorities were first alerted to the incident by the homeowners who had just returned from vacation on August 10 and found their home, on Grand Valley Road near Cochrane, ransacked.

While going through their belongings, they noticed that approximately $1 million worth of jewelry was taken.

The stolen items included a number of unique pieces made to look like the brand used by the ranch run by the homeowners.

Investigators who attended the scene determined that the theft occurred sometime between August 8 and 10.

They also say that there was no clear sign of forced entry into the home and the doors and windows were all locked when the homeowners got back.

Police believe that the thieves gained entry through a window, but there was no sign of it being forced open.

The RCMP says that the house is in a secluded location and has only one way in and out of the property, making it a very unique situation.

“It is quite unique for the amount of jewelry that was stolen,” said Constable Jennifer Brewer with the Cochrane RCMP. “A lot of that price is that the pieces are unique and specially ordered.”

A forensic team is still investigating the break-in but police have not identified any suspects so far.

Brewer says the RCMP is also monitoring buy and sell websites to see if any of the stolen items appear.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or Crime  Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
