The investigation into the murder of a 69-year-old woman from Coleman is still continuing and the RCMP has released photos of the victim in the hopes of gathering more information from the public to help in the case.

On September 9, Hannah Meketech was found dead inside her home.

The Medical Examiner in Calgary, after performing an autopsy, determined that her death was a homicide, but they aren’t releasing any more information on the cause.

Investigators say they have managed to contact Meketech’s family and informed them of the situation.

They are, however, no closer to identifying a suspect in the case. Police want to speak to anyone who may have information about the activities of Meketech or anyone she knew.

Terry Megli lives next door and said earlier this week that Meketech was one of the first people he met when he moved to southern Alberta.

“She was just a sweet lady, she was childish, in a way,” said Megli. “We talked to her just a few days, we were out in my back yard and heard her talking, I looked over the fence and she's up the alley, feeding a deer. But she was like that, she fed skunks, because she was afraid they'd starve to death."

Meketech lived independently, but was developmentally challenged.

Megli also happens to be Derek Saretzky's grandfather. Saretzky, 22, is charged with first degree murder in connection with the deaths two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette and her father Terry Blanchette.

Police add that they haven't ruled out the possibility that Saretzky could have been involved with Meketech's death. His grandparents, meanwhile, say they haven’t been able to see their grandson since he was arrested.

They tell CTV that they are ‘ashamed and horrified’ by what he’s accused of doing.

The public is asked to call the RCMP at 403-519-7314 should they believe that they have any information which may assist police in this investigation. Anyone wishing to pass on information and remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
