It was Christmas in August at the Deerfoot Mall Sunday.

700 motorcyclists participated in the second annual toy run to benefit The Magic of Christmas. This charitable organization helps families in need during the holiday season.

The Magic of Christmas President Allan Reid says this is just a perfect fit for his organization. “We’re always short of toys at Christmas time. It always goes down to the last couple of hours so it was almost a no brainer when they came to me and so we started it last year it was a huge success.”

The Magic of Christmas has been operating in Calgary for 33 years. Reid says last year this toy run helped make Christmas possible for 500 families.

On Sunday, Reid was touched by the response. “They were supposed to bring one gift but most brought 2, 3 and 4. One guy brought a whole trailer full of toys so it’s just awesome.”

As a thank you, those who brought a new unwrapped toy were treated to a turkey dinner.
