A job scam is making the rounds that is taking advantage of job seekers by masquerading as a legitimate head hunting firm.
If you're a professional looking for a job you will want to look out for this new employment scam.
The crooks reel you in by telling you you're a top candidate for a job and with just a little bit of help you'll get hired.
A Calgary woman was looking for a new job and found an event planner job she wanted to apply for on indeed.com. She doesn’t want her identity revealed but is coming forward to warn others.
The ad was placed by Fortune Personnel Consultants on the employer’s behalf.
The woman Googled the company and saw that it is a large headhunting firm based in New York City.
After she applied, she got an email saying she was a top candidate but needed to tailor her resume to the employer. They offered to do that for $150.
CTV Calgary Consumer Specialist Lea Williams-Doherty looked into the situation and found out that after the woman paid the money all communication stopped.
Lea says the woman contacted the real Fortune Personnel Consultants and learned they had nothing to do with the want ad and that she was one of many to fall for this scam.
Lea also called Fortune Personnel and says the company’s CEO was outraged criminals had stolen his company's identity.
Lea says that the woman checked out the company by going to its website but would have been better off actually calling the company to see if they posted the job.
Another option would have been to email the company from its website to find out about the job.
