Many parents say the Calgary Board of Education’s new bus policy is not working.

One week ago, parents were told that their kids would have new bus stops.

Up until now the farthest a grade school student would have to walk to a stop was 800 metres, approximately eight city blocks.

But changes in bus routes means more stops along busier roads, but fewer stops along quiet streets, so walks to the bus stop can be up to 1.4 kilometres.

One mother says the route her children now have to take to the bus stop is too dangerous.

The CBE says parents can fill out comment forms on its website, but adds it’s not gathering feedback or planning changes.

Dana Corkey is the mother of two children who take the bus.  She says “and now it seems like the CBE has totally disregarded all of the thought that we as parents had put in to it and basically just drawn lines on a map and said ‘this is you new bus stop’ without actually talking to anyone.”
