Search and rescue crews are scouring the area surrounding Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park after an 11-year-old boy fell into the Yoho River on Friday night.

According to Parks Canada, the unnamed boy from Calgary and another child fell into the river shortly after 7:00 p.m. Friday near the Takakkaw Falls Day Use Area near Field, B.C.  Members of the group managed to retrieve only one of the two children.

Parks Canada, Golden Search and Rescue, the Field Fire Department, BC Ambulance and two helicopter crews responded and searched the area by ground and air before calling off the search at approximately 10:30 p.m. due to darkness.

The aerial and ground search operation resumed Saturday morning with the addition of a Parks Canada dog handler.

The Golden-Field RCMP detachment is leading the investigation into the missing persons case.
