Recovery teams are expected to resume the search on Friday for a missing man who friends say was diving from the cliffs near Seebe.
Emergency crews were called to the area at about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
RCMP say a 21-year-old man was diving from the cliffs with friends when he and a female companion started having problems as they were swimming to shore.
Another group of people in the area tried to help and were able to bring the female to shore.
They were unable to reach the man, who became more distressed and slipped beneath the surface.
The man is presumed to have drowned.
A search by air and water was launched by Kananaskis Public Safety and Cochrane RCMP but so far the man has not been found.
"It is a bit of challenge with the flowing current. You don't know if they got caught up with them or followed the stream down. It's a large area. It's three kilometres to the next dam from the location where he was last seen," said RCMP Cpl. Gary Fedrau.
The search was called off on Thursday night after crews turned up nothing.
