The Calgary Police Service and Shannon Madill Burgess' family are reaching out to the public in an attempt to locate the 25-year-old woman who has not been heard from in more than a week.

Shannon was last seen in the early morning hours of Thursday, November 27, at her home in the 1900 block of Spiller Rd. S.E in the community of Ramsay, a home she shares with her husband Josh.

The 25-year-old was expected to meet with her brother Brett on Sunday, November 30 at StageWest but she never arrived.

On Monday, Burgess was reported missing. Her cellphone and vehicle remained at the Ramsay home.

According to police, there are no signs of foul play, but the disappearance is out of character for Shannon.

“We have her cellphone,” said CPS Staff Sergeant Travis Baker. “She’s obviously not using her cellphone as we have it. The family was more than cooperative in supplying that to us.”

“We haven’t seen any activity online or electronically. If there was, we would be pursuing that.”

On Friday morning, Shannon's family addressed the media in the hope Shannon would hear their message.

“Shannon, if you see this, you’re not in trouble, we all love you and we miss you so much," said family spokesperson Erin Madill, Shannon's older sister. "We need to know where you are and we just want to know that you’re safe.”

Erin was joined by Shannon's husband, parents, two brothers and a sister-in-law at the CPS media availabily. The family holds the belief Shannon is safe, wherever she may be.

“We’re all very optimistic that my sister will be returned to us as soon as possible and very safe,” said Erin Madill. “We’re going to stay optimistic as long as we possibly can.”

“It is unbelievably unlikely for her to disappear and not contact anybody.”

Shannon is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Weighing approximately 59 kg (130 lbs)
  • Approximately 168 cm (5’6”) tall
  • Having red hair
  • Having green eyes
  • Wearing glasses

Shannon works as a performance artist and a standup comedian and travels to Edmonton frequently to visit friends.

“My sister is a very outgoing, very social girl," explains Erin. She very much enjoys spending time with friends. Even the previous weekend, when she was in Edmonton, there are so many people that I’ve told who’ve said they were hanging out with her.”

“All avenues are being looked at, certainly credit cards and banking information is one of the priorities we look at," said S/Sgt. Baker. "If somebody decides to go off the grid intentionally, they have to make plans and they have to have some money. ”

If Shannon disappeared of her own volition, S/Sgt. Baker addressed the 25-year-old assuring her she will not face any legal trouble.

“Wherever you are, come forward, call us, call your family members, tell them that you’re safe and that will be the end of it,” said Baker.

“We want to know that you’re okay,” echoed Erin Madill.

Anyone with information about Burgess’ current whereabouts is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
