Calgary police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old Calgarian in connection to Saturday morning’s grisly discovery outside of a southwest business.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., officers responded to a parking lot in the 10300 block of Macleod Trail Southwest following reports of a man in medical distress.

Emergency crews located the remains of a severely injured man and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Rodney Conway and an autopsy determined the death was the result of gunshots.

On Monday, officers arrested 25-year-old Joshua Jayson Matechuk in a vehicle at an undisclosed location in northeast Calgary. Matechuk was charged with five firearm related offences.

The following day, Matechuk was charged with second degree murder in connection to the death of Rodney Conway.

According to Calgary Police Service officials, investigators believe Matechuk and Conway knew one another and the suspect and victim met at a neighbouring parking lot to the crime scene. CPS members believe an altercation occurred which resulted in the shooting death of Conway.

Matechuk is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
