One man has been transported to hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition following a head-on collision on Glenmore Trail just west of the Blackfoot Trail overpass.

According to police, at approximately 3:30 p.m., an SUV was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Glenmore Trail when it collided with an oncoming heavy equipment service truck.

Following the collision, the driver of the SUV, a man believed to be in his late thirties, was trapped in the wreckage. Fire crews successfully extricated the man from the vehicle and EMS transported the patient to hospital in serious condition.

No other injuries have been reported. 

All lanes of westbound Glenmore Trail and two of the three lanes of eastbound Glenmore Trail were closed to traffic. Glenmore Trail is expected to reopen shortly.

Police are investigating driver impairment as a possible factor in the collision.
