The city plans to upgrade security cameras and possibly take other measures to keep vandals from damaging the iconic Peace Bridge.

Since the bridge opened in 2012, about $200,000 has been put into security upgrades. In October, two of the clear panels that run the length of the bridge were smashed, which is the second time the bridge was vandalized this year. The other incident happened in the summer and saw similar damage to panels near the top of the bridge.

The city has extra panels in storage and will use them to replace the broken ones.

The new security cameras will have better sight lines both on and off the bridge.
