Jesse George Hill pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Amy Sands in a Calgary courtroom on Monday and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Amy Sands, the daughter of Okotoks town councillor Ed Sands, was found shot to death in a garage on Dover Meadow Close SE on the morning of Friday August 31, 2012.

Jesse Hill was asked to leave a party at the home and returned later with a friend and two shots were fired into the garage killing Sands.

Hill was originally charged with second-degree murder in her death.

He was sentenced to eight years on Monday but with credit for time served will spend four years and nine months behind bars.

In handing down the sentence, Court of Queen's Bench Justice Earl Wilson told Hill that the fact that it all started as a war of threats and insults is "mind boggling" and he hoped Hill thinks about that while he is incarcerated.
