The heavy snowfall in the city is creating power problems for a number of areas but schools in both systems are weathering the storm and staying open to shelter students.

Catholic District School Board officials say all of its schools remain open even though some are experiencing power outages.

They say there are about 10 schools affected but feel it’s safe for the students to be there.

Updates will be provided on the CCSD Facebook page HERE.

CBE schools are open and officials say they are also having some issues with power.

They say students are using classrooms and gathering areas with natural light where there are outages.

The CBE will also keep students and parents up-to-date on its website HERE.

Some private schools in the city have also been impacted by power interuptions and parents should contact the individual schools to find out if they are open to students.

Schools in the Rocky View School Division are open. One school did experience power issues but the problem was resolved before 9:00 a.m.

The snow has also forced the closure of some of the city’s popular attractions including Heritage Park, the Calgary Zoo and Spruce Meadows.
