Members of the Airdrie RCMP detachment are asking for assistance from the public in identifying the suspect in a Friday afternoon vehicle theft outside of Crossfield.

At around 3:00 p.m., officers responded to the undisclosed location after an armed man confronted two oil site workers. According to RCMP, the armed suspect demanded a vehicle. When the workers refused, a shot was fired into the air.

The suspect fled the area in a stolen Toyota Sequoia.

With assistance from the Calgary Police Service’s HAWCs unit, the stolen vehicle was located north of Airdrie. RCMP members including police dogs scoured the area around the vehicle but the suspect was not located. Several articles of clothing, believed to be the suspect’s, were found.

RCMP believe the suspect attempted to steal a boat and trailer in Didsbury on Friday prior to the theft of the Sequoia.

The suspect is described as:

  • Having a darker complexion
  • Between 25 and 35 years old
  • Approximately 178 cm (5’10”) tall
  • Having a lean build with wide shoulders
  • Having dark hair and dark eyes

RCMP have released a composite sketch of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the armed robbery of the Sequoia, the attempted theft of the trailer and boat, or the identity of the man in the composite sketch, is asked to contact the Airdrie RCMP detachment, 403-945-7200, or Crime Stoppers.
