Calgarians can now build skateboard ramps in their backyards without a permit.

Council passed the new sports ramp bylaw on Monday night. There is a size limit of 1.5 metres high by five metres wide by six metres long. The ramps also cannot be used after 10 p.m.

Some members of council expressed concerns about noise and voted against it, but the bylaw passed by a vote of eight to six.

The bylaw follows several rounds of public consultation, including a phone survey, online input, open houses and talks with skateboarders.
