Canada Olympic Park welcomed visitors on Saturday following a two-day closure of the hill prompted by frigid temperatures and extreme wind chills.

“It’s outstanding,” said Dave Honeyman, a resident of Banff who was at COP for a certification course. “The hill here is in great shape. They’ve benefitted with their artificial snowmaking and the cold weather. “

“It’s going to be a great day tomorrow too!”

While Saturday’s high temperature in Calgary was still well below the freezing mark, the lack of wind led WinSport officials to resume operations on the ski and snowboard hill.

Honeyman said he took extra precautions for battling the elements while enjoying a day on the slopes.

“Clothing’s really important,” said Honeyman.”Mitts instead of gloves and a nice down jacket. Special clothing for this kind of weather.”

WinSport plans to continue regular operating hours for the foreseeable future including next weekend when Canada Olympic Park’s new tube park opens to the public.
