Residents of Magrath say they’re disgusted after a deer carcass was left on a park bench in the middle of the community in what appears to be a distasteful prank. **WARNING** IMAGE MAY BE DISTURBING

One person in the community took a picture of the animal after co-workers spotted the carcass lying on a park bench in Main Street.

The animal was on its back, with its legs bound with green tape and blow horn stuffed into its mouth.

There was no indication about how the animal died.

The resident who took the photo said they notified police, but wasn’t told about whether or not an investigation would take place.

The carcass was soon removed, but residents are left wondering what actually happened.

“I think kids that live in a small town are bored, maybe,” said Lina Fillmore, a resident in the community. “Oh, my stomach turns because I think it’s so disrespectful to the animal. Makes me very sad.”

Jay Mackenzie, a business owner, says it was likely a prank. “I didn’t see it, but I thought it was kinda sick to be honest. My guess is it probably got hit by a car. Somebody found it and thought they’d play a prank, I guess.”

Fish and Wildlife officers say they hadn’t been notified about the incident by residents or the RCMP.

Deer are plentiful around Magrath because of a good food supply and good shelter in the river valley.
