The city says that construction on the Peace Bridge is going well and that the new bridge over the Bow should be open to the public on March 24, 2012.

Crews are still working on the bridge to remove the final segments of the assembly platform and cleanup the pathway and approach areas.

Final commissioning and testing on components like electrical, lighting and security cameras must also be completed before opening day.

The 850-metric tonne, red, steel structure was moved across the Bow River in late November 2011 and lowered onto the permanent abutments in December.

The bridge is 130 metres and the city says the 6.2 metre wide pathway will provide a clear separation between pedestrians and wheeled traffic to enhance safety and ease of movement.
