The St. Patrick's Bridge officially opened Monday.

The footbridge connects the East Village with St. Patrick's Island and the Memorial Drive pathway.

The $25-million dollar bridge took five years to build and was delayed an entire year when the flood of 2013 washed away   its deck.

The city expects four thousand people to cross it everyday.

Right now the bridge connects what are essentially two construction zones, East Village and St. Patrick's Park.

However, the park is set to open next summer, about the same time a series of restaurants, bakeries and bars open in the East Village.

It's part of a bigger plan to create family-friendly parks and amenities in the East Village.
