Five men are being questioned by police following an early morning drive-by shooting and a subsequent home standoff in the city’s north end.
According to police, shortly before 2:00 a.m., gunfire was fired from a white Ford Escape SUV into a black BMW SUV in an industrial area near 47 St and Westwinds Dr. N.E. No one was hit by the gunfire, but passengers received minor cuts from the shattered glass.
Officers tracked the occupants of the Ford Escape to a home in the 100 block of Coville Close N.E. Police determined five individuals were inside the house.
Four of the occupants left the home and were taken into custody. The fifth man, who police officers believed to be armed, remained in the house.
Members of the Calgary Tactical Supprt Team, negotiators and K9 units were deployed, and police cordoned off an area surrounding the home.
Just prior to 10:00 a.m., the final occupant of the home surrendered and was taken into police custody.
Police continue to investigate the shooting.
