Members of the Cochrane RCMP have arrested and charged a 38-year-old woman in connection to a Monday evening incident which sent the woman’s common-law husband to hospital in serious but stable condition.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., emergency crews responded to a residence on the Stoney First Nation following reports a man had been struck by a vehicle.

On arrival, RCMP and EMS located an injured 28-year-old man but the offender had fled. The victim was transported by ambulance to hospital.

RCMP members located the suspect vehicle a short time later and the driver, a 38-year-old woman, was arrested.

On Wednesday, RCMP identified the accused as Brigette Chiniquay of the Stoney First Nation. The victim, the common-law husband of Chiniquay, remains in hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Chiniquay faces charges of:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision
  • Driving while Disqualified
  • Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm
  • Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm

Chiniquay remains in police custody. Her bail hearing was scheduled to occur on Wednesday.
