The magnificent Glacier Skywalk in Jasper National Park opened to the public on Thursday after seven years in the making and offers a breathtaking view of the Sunwapta Valley.

Brewster Travel Canada worked with Parks Canada on the project which includes three main areas; a receiving area, the Discovery Trail and finally the Discovery Vista.

Guests are transported by bus from the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre to the Glacier Skywalk when they arrive.

The Discovery Trail winds its way along the edge of the cliffs to the Discovery Vista where visitors can take in an unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains.

The glass-floored observation floor is suspended 280 metres above the Sunwapta Valley.

“It’s overwhelming, I mean, you know, you step out and look down and it’s kind of hard to, it looks like a Google Earth map,” said Derick who was visiting from Ireland.

The Glacier Skywalk, in the Columbia Icefield, was designed as an extension of the landscape and is built into the bedrock using materials that are free of paint and other toxins.

“It’s been years of environmental monitoring, construction, planning and dreaming and now here we are,” said Juliette Recompsat from Brewster.

Admission is $24.95 for adults and $12.50 for children over the age of five.
