Summer is in full swing and a Calgary group is infusing some Broadway entertainment into these hot summer nights. Summerstock, Calgary’s only outdoor musical company, is bringing “Legally Blonde: The Musical” to Olympic Plaza.
The musical follows Elle Woods, a blonde sorority girl who heads off to Harvard Law School to prove she’s just as much of a Jackie Kennedy as a Marilyn Monroe. In order to win back the love of her life, Warner Huntington III, Elle will need to show that she’s more than just the colour of her hair and, in doing so, fight the stereotype that follows her around.
It’s the 10th Anniversary Show for the non-profit Summerstock organization that provides theatrical training to local Calgary high school and university students through Alberta Education and Westmount Charter School. Students received high school credits for their work and their intensive labour culminates with this production - a talented showcase of some of our town’s best and brightest young performers.
Tickets are only $12 and available through Ticketmaster with all proceeds going towards student scholarships. The show starts at 6:36pm every night from July 25th until August 4th, so be sure to bring your family, friends, and coworkers out for an inexpensive summer evening downtown and don’t miss this year’s Summerstock production!
