Calgary police are asking for public assistance in locating the two men believed responsible for an armed robbery which sent a business owner to hospital in critical condition.

On the evening of December 6, 2014, two masked men entered the Dahab Exchange located at 5012 17 Ave S.E. near the end of the business day and demanded money from the owner, Yousef Mohamed. During the exchange, a shot was fired which stuck Mohamed.

CPS Staff Sergeant Dave Louie confirms there was a physical confrontation between the suspects and Mohamed prior to the discharging of the weapon.

The offenders exited the business and fled the area on foot.

A severely injured Mohamed made his way to a neighbouring restaurant for help. An EMS crew transported the shooting victim to the Foothills Medical Centre in critical condition.

According to police, Mohamed, a married father of four, has since been released from hospital.

On Wednesday, March 26, 2015, police released surveillance camera images of the suspects.

The first suspect is described as:

  • Dark skinned male
  • Approximately 183 cm (6’) tall
  • Having a slim build

Police describe the second suspect as:

  • Dark skinned male

Calgary Police Service Staff Sergeant Dave Louie of the robbery unit says the offenders are black males. Although the business' customers are primarily Somalis, there is no indication the suspects are members of the community.
