A 26-year-old Calgary man remains in police custody in connection to a Wednesday night incident at the Jewish Community Centre in southwest Calgary.

According to police, at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, a man with a backpack entered the Calgary Jewish Community Centre during a pro-Israeli rally. The man approached a security check and agreed to have employees search his bag. Security members located two airsoft handguns in the bag and a call was made to police.

Officers arrived at the centre and arrested the man without incident.

26-year-old Adam Joseph Dykens faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of carrying a concealed weapon
  • Two counts of carrying a weapon to a public meeting
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order

Dykens remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning.
