A 46-year-old man has been apprehended following an armed standoff with members of the Lethbridge Police Service on Sunday moning in the neighbourhood of Hardieville.

Officers responded to a location in the 1100 block of 43 Avenue North early Sunday morning following reports of an incident involving weapons.

The suspect, a 46-year-old man, remained inside a residence and police determined the man was armed.

During the police response, members of the public were asked to avoid the area to ensure their safety.

Following what LPS officials called a 'lengthy armed standoff', the suspect was arrested and police located loaded firearms within the home. Police confirmed the incident was resolved shortly after 9:00 a.m.

Undisclosed charges are pending against the unidentified man.

The police investigation into the incident, which now includes members of the Criminal Investigation Section, continues.
