An early morning, single vehicle crash on 16 Ave. N.W. has two people fighting for their lives in hospital.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a 2005 Nissan Altima was travelling westbound in the 900 block of 16 Ave. N.W. when the vehicle drove onto the concrete median and struck a light standard.

The two occupants of the sedan, the male driver and a female passenger, suffered potentially life threatening injuries. EMS transported the pair, believed to be in their early twenties, to hospital.

An investigation into the crash is underway. Police have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash, but drugs and speed are believed to have contributed to the collision.
