A Thai police officer has been sentenced in the death of a Calgary man who was shot outside a bar in 2008.

The officer faces a sentence of 37 1/2 years.

Police originally said they got into a scuffle with 24-year-old Leo Del Pinto and the officer drew his gun and fired to protect himself.

Leo’s father, Ernie, never believed their story and has fought for justice ever since.

Evidence soon showed a massive police cover-up and the officer pleaded guilty earlier this month.

The sentence will be added to the time he is already spending in jail for murdering his pregnant wife.
