Apple fans can’t wait to get their hands on the company’s newest smartphone.

The iPhone 6 is billed as bigger, faster, and better.

The goal is to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy.

The iPhone 6 and 6+ were available at 8 a.m.

People waited for hours outside the Apple stores in Calgary and across the country.

In Calgary, Sam Nakutnok started the lineup outside the Apple store at Chinook Centre at 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

He said he got a few looks, "everyone was walking by me, looking at me, as if I was nuts and I just kept smiling at them."

Nakutnok said by 2 p.m. people were started to join him in the lineup.

There is a limit on the number of new phones customers can buy - only two per customer today.

The iPhone 6 has a screen of 4.7 inches and the 6-Plus is 5.5 inches, allowing Apple to adapt to consumers' apparent preference for bigger displays.
